About the organisation
Playgroup SA is a progressive and high-performing not-for-profit organisation dedicated to helping all South Australian families discover the benefits of play for children’s development. Supported by government, philanthropic grants, membership, and fundraising, we proudly connect more than 2,000 families across 190 playgroups statewide – from metro hubs to rural and regional communities.
We provide expert support through training, development programs, additional needs services, play resources, and workshops. For more than 50 years we’ve nurtured children, supported families, and strengthened communities – balancing our grassroots heritage with a modern, strategic identity.

About the role
We are seeking a Non-Executive Director to join our energetic and forward-thinking Board. This is a unique opportunity to contribute your expertise and vision to an organisation that is entering an exciting new phase of growth and influence.
As part of our succession planning and board regeneration, we are also inviting expressions of interest for the role of Chairperson, commencing in 2026.
We are particularly seeking candidates with expertise in Legal – governance, risk, compliance, and / or not-for-profit law.
Who We’re Looking For
You are a values-driven leader with the ability to think and influence strategically, and a commitment to collaborative governance. You will demonstrate a passion for the role playgroups have in children’s development, family wellbeing, and community connection.
Essential qualities include:
- Proven governance or senior leadership experience
- Capacity to contribute to high-quality strategic decision-making
- Commitment to Playgroup SA’s mission, vision and values
- Understanding of the not-for-profit/community services landscape
- AICD qualification (desirable)

- Meetings: The Board meets every 2 months and committee meetings are monthly.
